About Long Story Short

It started as an idea over drinks.

Beth hadn’t planned to launch a live storytelling series, but when she ran into the director of a local performance space, she suggested the venue would be perfect for it. A small, dark theater created an intimate space for telling personal stories.

OK. How about you run it?

“Why not?” she thought. Beth had never before produced a show or hosted an event before — how hard could it be?

Meeting people is easy.

Beth started recruiting writers she knew. Then a few bartenders she had heard spin a good yarn. A few storytellers ghosted her the first show, but eventually more people came, saw that there is magic in telling your story and signed up.

A venue and the radio.

Long Story Short has had a few changes over the years, but the constant has always been great stories in an intimate space. Thanks to partner 3S Artspace, the series host venue, for its support and promotion that in no small part has helped Long Story Short grow into a quarterly showcase for storytellers of all kinds, from beginners to seasoned writers.

In 2022, Long Story Short partnered with NH Public Radio to rebroadcast selected stories from each show, further highlighting the talented people and compelling stories they share.

Long Story Short Podcast

In 2020, live shows were put on hold. Hoping to share stories when everyone is staying at home, Long Story Short launched a podcast, found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and other popular platforms.

After a hiatus, the podcast is getting new life, with episodes planned for early 2023 and a new host, Mark Michael Adams.
